Biography
Karen Nemeth, the presenter for Building a Multicultural Multilingual Community in Your Early Childhood Program, holds a BA in Psychology and an EdM in Learning, Cognition and Development (research on language acquisition), and she is a a Certified Baby Sign Language Instructor. She is an NAEYC member, author, and consulting editor and has presented at numerous national conferences on topics related to supporting young children who are dual language learners. She is a board member of NJTESOL-NJBE and coordinator of SIG on Early Childhood Education. Karen wrote Many Languages, One Classroom: Teaching Dual and English Language Learners (2009), published by Gryphon House. She was an Education Program Development Specialist in the Office of Preschool Education at NJ Department of Education. She is currently a consultant and website provider (http://www.languagecastle.com) focusing on building appropriate preschool services to meet the needs of children from different language backgrounds. Her prior experience includes work in public school, private school, child care resource and referral/professional development organizations, college teaching and grantwriting.
