Running a successful Board of Directors is not an easy job and it doesn’t just happen. It takes time, effort and planning. An organization’s success can be greatly enhanced or dramatically improved by the contributions of a fully functioning Board of Directors. Boards and Program Directors’ who build strong partnerships are able to lead their organizations to higher levels of performance and overall program success. This session will include an overview of roles and responsibilities of a successful Board of Directors. Attendees will learn ways to determine their Board’s current effectiveness and to identify their Board strengths and weaknesses. The session will include discussions of mission statements, board structure, membership and recruitment, communication, and strategies for dealing with typical board ups and downs. You will leave this session with several resources you can immediately use and spring-board into action; and the session will conclude with a discussion on follow through, action plans and accountability.
